Hugh Jackman Reveals Why He Cried After Reading ‘The Death of Robin Hood’ Script

Hugh Jackman says that when he read the script for director Michael Sarnoski’s new movie The Death of Robin Hood, it brought him to tears and he knew he had to play the title role.
Hugh Jackman was in tears when he first read the script for his new movie The Death of Robin Hood.
The 57-year-old actor plays an older version of the English folk hero living in self-imposed exile, trying to come to terms with the outlaw deeds he committed, only for his past and his own mortality to catch up with him.
Jackman was moved to tears when he read the script by director Michael Sarnoski, and after watching Sarnoski’s first feature film, Pig, starring Nicolas Cage as a truffle forager who must find his stolen truffle-sniffing pig, he called his agent to accept the role of Robin.

Jackman, speaking after a screening of the film at BAFTA 195 Piccadilly in London on Tuesday nite (09/01/26), said: “I read the script, I just thought it was so beautiful. When I read the last part of the script I cried, which is a very, very rare thing for me. “Then I think my agent said, ‘I think Michael is shooting his second movie right now.’ The script was great but I thought, ‘I better just check out his first movie. ‘Twenty minutes into Pig I called my agent and said, “I’m in”. And there’s lyricism and confidence to every frame. There is a vision, the vision is consistent all the way through. Michael is one of the great voices in film today.”

Jackman was also keen to star in The Death of Robin Hood – which was based on the 17th century English ballad Robin Hood’s Death – as he and his son, 24-year-old Oscar, are keen on 13th century English history, while he has been fascinated by the apparently heroic outlaw since he was a boy.

He added: “This fascinated me. That’s something I share with my son, we’re both really interested in this era as well as the Robin Hood mythology which is something I have loved since I was a boy. I had heard something of the ballad. I just sort of started reading about it. Robin Hood, was he a real person? Is he a figment? What is the source of the mythology? “What interested me was how the myth of Robin Hood developed according to the political background of the time. The Robin Hood we know today, the one who robs from the rich and gives to the poor, really only came about in the 1500s when things were beginning to change politically. Before that he was just a murderous villain. He was a warning. I was intrigued by its transformation.
BANG Showbiz attended the special screening and was joined by Jackman’s co-star Jodie Comer who plays prioress and healer Sister Brigid and Sarnoski.

In some scenes, Sister Brigid treats a sick Robin by drawing blood from his body in an attempt to cure him of his ailments.

Smiling, Hugh pointed out to the audience that bloodletting, a popular medical treatment in the Middle Ages and the 1600s, has no benefits. In fact, it has the contrary effect on patients.

He said: “Let me be clear, blood letting does not work! There’s no science to it, you just lose a lot of blood and you do die.”

Gary Glitter Pleads Not Guilty to Eight Historic Sexual Abuse Charges

Gary Glitter has pleaded not guilty to eight historic sexual abuse charges in a court appearance via videolink.
Gary Glitter has pleaded not guilty to eight historic sexual abuse charges.

The 82-year-old disgraced former glam rocker – whose real name is Paul Gadd – appeared via videolink at Southwark Crown Court on Wednesday (02.09.26) to enter a plea to a series of allegations relating to a young girl, who he has been accused of assaulting in the late 1970s and early 1980s when she was aged between eight and 11.
Glitter, who is serving a prison sentence at HMP Channings Wood in Devon following previous convictions, replied “absolutely not guilty” to two of the charges and “not guilty” to the remaining six.
He will face trial for the allegations – four counts of indecent assault, two counts of indecency with a child, and two charges of sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of 13 – from the week of 22 November next year.

Prosecutor Jonathan Polnay KC said the alleged offences took place between 1978 and 1981, when the complainant, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, was aged between eight and 11.

The offences allegedly took place at Glitter’s home address in Kensington and Chelsea.

At a previous hearing, prosecutors alleged Glitter would give the girl chocolate and “invite her into his house where he then committed a number of serious sexual offences”.

Appearing by videolink wearing a blue shirt, glasses and a cap, Glitter previously told the court: “Your honour, excuse me, I’m extremely deaf and unless I’m lip-reading I can’t hear.

“My name is Paul Gadd.”

He then added: “Sorry, your honour, may I make a suggestion?

“If the barrister turns the volume down a little bit, it wouldn’t be so distorting in my hearing aids.”
Bethan David, Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor in CPS London, said: “The Crown Prosecution Service has decided to prosecute Paul Gadd with one count of unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under 13 and three counts of indecent assault on a girl under 14.

“This follows allegations made by a woman relating to a period of alleged abuse that took place between 1978 and 1981.

“Our prosecutors have worked to establish that there is sufficient evidence to bring this case to court and that it is in the public interest to do so.”

Glitter is currently serving a prison sentence that is due to expire in February 2031, when he would be almost 87.

He was first imprisoned in 1999 and later received a 16-year sentence in 2015 before being released on licence in February 2023.

Evicted Sultex Blasts BBNaija Housemates, Opens Up on Yusuf and Bells’ Romance

Recently evicted Big Brother Naija Season 11 housemate, Sultex, has taken a swipe at fellow contestant Yusuf, describing him as a “small boy” while questioning the substance of his relationship with Bells in the reality show.

Sultex made the remarks during a post-eviction interview with Pulse Nigeria on September 2, 2026, where he reflected on his experience in the Show Ya Sef house and shared his views about some of the remaining contestants.

The former housemate also expressed disappointment over his early eviction, questioning why contestants such as Ricky, Nomy and Bells remained in the competition while he had been sent home.

Sultex suggested that he entered the reality show primarily to promote his craft and deliberately avoided getting involved in unnecessary distractions, including romantic relationships.

Asked about the much-discussed relationship between Yusuf and Bells, Sultex was particularly critical. He dismissed their connection as lacking depth, arguing that their interactions appeared to revolve mainly around physical affection rather than meaningful conversations or substance.

According to him, the pair had little to offer beyond kissing and physical contact. He added that he had personally confronted Bells and told her what he thought about the relationship.

Sultex’s comments come as interest in the relationships and rivalries among the remaining housemates continues to generate reactions from viewers following his eviction.

The reality star was also asked about housemates who might be involved in talking behind others’ backs. In response, he mentioned some female contestants, including his friends and Flora, but noted that they were also capable of saying their opinions directly to people’s faces.

Sultex further addressed the disagreement involving Temi Nkem and Oyin, particularly Temi’s description of Oyin as a “local champion.”

The evicted housemate disagreed with Temi’s comment, describing the statement as wrong. His remarks add another layer to the ongoing tensions and controversies surrounding the housemates as the competition continues.

With Sultex now outside the house, his candid assessment of the remaining contestants is likely to fuel further discussions among BBNaija viewers, particularly regarding Yusuf and Bells’ relationship and the performances of other housemates.

Marwa Orders NDLEA to Target Drug Cartels’ Financiers, Hidden Wealth

The Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (retd.), has called for a stronger financial offensive against drug cartels, saying the agency must target the wealth and financial networks that keep the illicit narcotics business alive.

Marwa said the fight against drug trafficking should no longer be measured mainly by the number of suspects arrested or quantities of drugs intercepted, arguing that criminal networks could quickly recover from such losses if their financiers and assets remained untouched.

He spoke in Abuja on Wednesday at the opening of a specialised training programme for investigators and prosecutors on financial investigation, asset tracing and recovery.

The programme is also focused on forfeiture and the management of assets connected to drug trafficking and other organised crimes.

The NDLEA chairman said drug trafficking should be viewed as a business built around financial gain, with networks extending beyond those physically caught transporting or selling narcotics.

According to him, financiers, money launderers, facilitators and other professionals who help criminals conceal or move illicit funds are critical to the survival of drug organisations.

He therefore charged investigators to follow financial trails alongside conventional drug investigations.

“If we arrest the courier but leave the financier untouched, seize the drugs but allow the proceeds to remain with the criminal enterprise, or secure a conviction without recovering the illicit wealth, we have addressed only part of the problem,” Marwa said.

He said weakening the financial strength of traffickers would make it more difficult for criminal organisations to replace seized drugs, recruit new members and finance further operations.

Marwa warned that drug networks were becoming more difficult to track as criminals increasingly turned to technology and sophisticated financial arrangements to hide their proceeds.

He said investigators now had to contend with cryptocurrency transactions, layered corporate structures and legitimate businesses allegedly being used to disguise the source and ownership of criminal assets.

The development, he said, required a corresponding improvement in the technical capabilities of law enforcement officers.

According to Marwa, NDLEA personnel must be able to unravel complicated transactions, determine the real owners of assets, gather digital evidence and trace proceeds of crime beyond Nigeria’s borders.

He said, “The sophistication of organised crime demands a corresponding sophistication in our response.

“We must move from crime detection to crime disruption; from arresting offenders to dismantling criminal enterprises; and from confiscating drugs to depriving traffickers of the wealth that motivates and sustains their activities.”

Marwa said the NDLEA had made progress in intercepting narcotics and prosecuting suspects, but stressed that the next phase of the agency’s operations must focus on making the illicit drug business financially unattractive.

He said traffickers should not be allowed to retain properties, bank balances and other benefits acquired from criminal activities after their drugs had been confiscated.

The NDLEA chairman said successful enforcement should leave criminal networks without the resources required to rebuild their operations.

He added that the agency’s goal was to turn narcotics trafficking into a venture where the risks substantially outweighed potential profits.

Marwa also identified connections between narcotics trafficking and other criminal activities, saying drug networks often operate within a broader organised crime ecosystem.

He listed corruption, money laundering, cybercrime, human trafficking and illegal arms dealing among crimes that could intersect with the narcotics trade.

“The drug trafficking ecosystem intersects with money laundering, corruption, cybercrime, human trafficking, illicit arms trafficking and other forms of organised crime,” he said.

Marwa said such connections made cooperation between different law enforcement institutions essential.

He also called for closer coordination within the NDLEA, particularly among officers handling intelligence, investigations, prosecutions, forensic analysis and financial and asset investigations.

According to him, intelligence gathered by one department should feed into the work of others rather than remain isolated.

Officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), and the Nigeria Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) attended the programme.

Marwa said the institutions’ involvement was important because successful asset recovery often requires cooperation between investigators, prosecutors, and the judiciary.

Among the experts engaged for the training were recently retired Circuit Judge Michael Hopmeier of the Southwark Crown Court in the United Kingdom; former ICPC Chairman Prof. Bolaji Owasanoye (SAN); and the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN).

Other participants included experts in cryptocurrency, money laundering and international asset recovery.

Beyond identifying and confiscating criminal assets, Marwa warned officers against mismanaging recovered property.

He said an asset could lose considerable value between seizure and eventual disposal if it was not properly managed.

According to him, mishandling recovered assets could also create doubts about the integrity of the forfeiture process.

He therefore demanded transparency at every stage, including seizure, forfeiture, custody, management and eventual realisation of recovered assets.

Marwa urged officers attending the training to share the expertise acquired with colleagues and ensure that the lessons were reflected in future investigations.

He said the agency expected participants to become better equipped to trace suspicious transactions, locate concealed assets, produce stronger evidence and obtain forfeiture orders against drug traffickers.

The Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice John Tsoho, also backed closer cooperation between the judiciary and agencies combating narcotics and financial crimes.

In a goodwill message delivered on his behalf by Justice Inyang Ekwo, Tsoho said the changing nature of drug-related offences required more sophisticated law enforcement techniques.

He said the scope of narcotics crime had expanded beyond conventional drug trafficking to areas such as financial crime and cryptocurrency-enabled money laundering.

According to the message, the subject of the training demonstrated “how extensive and multifaceted drug crimes are and can be, and their ever-expanding frontiers, which ought to be tackled by effective and sophisticated law enforcement.”

Tsoho also commended the NDLEA leadership for its efforts against drug trafficking, saying stronger cooperation between the Federal High Court and law enforcement institutions could enhance Nigeria’s reputation in the international fight against organised crime.

Headies Denies Sidelining Gospel Artistes Following Gaise Baba’s Allegation

The Headies has rejected allegations that gospel and inspirational artistes are being sidelined from its major award categories, insisting that its records show faith-based musicians have repeatedly competed for and won mainstream honours.

The awards organisers were responding to an open letter by Nigerian gospel singer Gaise Baba, who accused the platform of restricting gospel and inspirational music to dedicated categories instead of allowing such artistes to compete for some of its major awards.

Gaise Baba also raised concerns over the Inspirational Music category, claiming that although he was nominated for the award introduced in 2024, the winner was neither announced publicly nor presented with the award on stage.

In a statement published on its official Instagram page, the Headies disputed the allegations, saying its historical records provide evidence of gospel artistes receiving recognition across its general categories.

“Every award season, the same claim resurfaces: ‘The Headies doesn’t recognise gospel artists. Inspirational music is shut out of the real categories.’ It sounds provocative. It travels fast. But the record says otherwise – and the record is verifiable,” the organisers said.

The awards body pointed to the achievements of artistes including Lara George, Kefee, Nikki Laoye and Timi Dakolo as examples of gospel and inspirational musicians who have competed successfully outside faith-based categories.

According to the Headies, Lara George received a nomination for Best Female Vocal Performance in 2008 for “Ijoba Orun” before winning the same category in 2010 with “Keeper of My Dreams”.

Kefee, the organisers noted, won Best Collaboration in 2010 alongside Timaya for “Kokoroko”. The song also received nominations in categories including Song of the Year, Best Pop Single, Best Female Vocal Performance and Best Music Video.

The Headies also highlighted Timi Dakolo’s achievements, saying he won Recording of the Year in 2010 for “Heaven Please” and collected three awards in 2015 for “Wish Me Well”.

Nikki Laoye, it added, won Best Vocal Performance (Female) in 2013 for “Only You”.

The organisers said the examples demonstrated that gospel and inspirational artistes have not been restricted to categories specifically created for their genre.

“Gospel and inspirational artists have not merely been nominated. They have won major general categories against the strongest mainstream competition of their time,” the organisers said.
Addressing criticism surrounding the Inspirational Music category, the awards organisers said it was introduced at the 15th edition of the Headies in 2022 to increase opportunities for gospel and inspirational artistes rather than isolate them from the wider music industry.

“Best Inspirational Single, introduced at the 15th Headies in 2022, was not created to put gospel music in a box. It was created to give more gospel and inspirational artists a guaranteed place on the Headies stage,” the statement read.

The Headies said Kcee and Okwesili Eze Group won the inaugural award in 2022 for “Cultural Praise”. Neon Adejo followed with a win in 2023 for “Eze Ebube”, while Mercy Chinwo won in 2025 with “You Do This One”.

Other artistes, including Dunsin Oyekan, Limoblaze, Tope Alabi and Anendlessocean, have also received nominations in the category, according to the organisers.

The awards body further argued that failing to appear among the final nominees does not automatically mean an artiste was deliberately excluded.

It explained that each category typically receives about 50 eligible entries, which are assessed by the academy before the field is narrowed to approximately six nominees.

The Headies also addressed concerns about awards that are not announced or presented during the main televised ceremony.

According to the organisers, the number of award categories has expanded significantly, from about 22 in the early years of the event to 35, making it difficult to present every category during the live ceremony.

The awards body said it therefore uses a category rotation system, meaning some awards are omitted from the live broadcast at particular editions.

“Inspirational music is part of that rotation. That is not disregard. It is how a growing awards platform manages a growing number of categories,” the statement said.

The next edition of the Headies, themed “Africa to the World”, is scheduled to take place on October 25, 2026, in Toronto, Canada.

BBNaija 11: I didn’t deserve to leave before Ricky, Nomy, Bella – Evicted housemate, Sultex

Evicted Big Brother Naija Season 11 housemate, Sultex, has described his exit from the reality show as unfair, insisting that he deserved to remain in the competition longer.

Speaking during a post-eviction interview with Lush, Sultex questioned why he was evicted while housemates such as Ricky, Nomy and Bella remained in the show. He argued that the trio had contributed less to the programme compared with what he brought to the competition.

Sultex expressed surprise at the eviction, asking how the mentioned housemates could still be in the house while he had been sent home.

According to him, he believed other contestants were more deserving of eviction based on their level of contribution and entertainment value.

However, Sultex acknowledged that his eviction was now in the past and said he had moved on from the development.

The former housemate also addressed his confrontation with fellow contestant Yusuf, particularly his threat to have some boys “deal” with Yusuf in Lagos after the show.

Sultex clarified that the statement was made in the heat of the moment during their altercation in the house. He stressed that he had no intention of pursuing the disagreement outside the reality show or engaging Yusuf in a physical fight.

He maintained that the incident was driven by emotions at the time and should not be interpreted as a genuine threat.

Burna Boy’s Mum Reveals How She Handles His Wild Instagram Live Sessions

Bose Ogulu, mother and manager of Afrobeats star Burna Boy, has revealed that she grabs her son’s phone whenever he goes too far during his Instagram Live sessions.

Ogulu made the disclosure during an interview with media personality Ebuka Obi-Uchendu on Channels TV, where she spoke about Burna Boy’s personality and his often controversial moments online.

She explained that she has learnt to allow her son to express himself rather than trying to completely change the traits that make him who he is.

“You can always notice the difference between when I tweet and when Burna tweets. What I’ve come to learn is that artists like him, they’re like a tapestry. If you pull at one thread too hard, everything will unravel,” she said.

According to Ogulu, some of the same emotions behind Burna Boy’s controversial behaviour are also connected to the qualities his fans admire about him.

“So you must make allowances for this person being himself, because it’s the same emotion that what you love about him comes from. Within, we do what we can. I usually grab his phone from him anytime he goes wild on Instagram Live,” she said.

Burna Boy is known for his outspoken presence on social media, with his Instagram Live sessions occasionally attracting attention over his comments and interactions with fans.

Kcee: Artists need to be in peoples faces, being mysterious no longer relevant in entertainment

Nigerian music star Kingsley Okonkwo, popularly known as Kcee, has predicted that the culture of maintaining a mysterious public image will become largely irrelevant in the entertainment industry within the next five years.

Kcee made the prediction during an interview with Selah Meditate, where he discussed changing trends in the music business and the growing need for artists to maintain a visible presence.

According to the singer, being less accessible and deliberately staying away from the public once helped entertainers create value and generate curiosity. However, he believes the strategy no longer carries the same influence in today’s rapidly changing industry.

Kcee said artists now need to remain visible and consistently engage with their audiences to stay relevant. He argued that the rise of artificial intelligence and other technological developments has changed the entertainment landscape, making constant visibility increasingly important.

The singer also disclosed that he had spoken with some American professors who agreed with his view that the mysterious approach would soon lose its appeal.

He noted that while absence helped create value around 2021 and 2022, the situation has changed significantly.

Kcee therefore advised artists to become more extroverted and maintain a stronger presence in front of their fans as the industry continues to evolve.

“You Can’t Deceive People for Years” – Carter Efe Opens Up on Former Relationship

Nigerian skitmaker and content creator Carter Efe has explained why he stopped making relationship-focused content with his former girlfriend.

It was reported that the comedian spoke during a recent episode of Cocktails & Takeaways, where he discussed his past relationship content and the challenges he faced while creating videos with his former partner.

Carter explained that his online content had become closely linked to his relationship, to the point where he found it difficult to create videos whenever his girlfriend was not around.

According to him, he later realized that building his career around another person could affect his growth and personal identity.

He said he began to see the need to separate his own brand from his relationship so that his career would not depend on whether he was with his partner or not.

“I’m a smart boy. God gave me brain. I know say this thing go take my life. There was a time I could not do content if I don’t see my woman. If I don’t see my woman, I cannot shoot content. You don’t have to attach me to anyone. Like don’t attach my glory also to someone else. Some people don’t even care, even when you people are quarrelling, they will say they want two of you together in that video. I have to, like, use my own brain and say no.

“Do you know how many times I’ll cry before we shoot? we’ll fight, fight, fight before we start content, before we even shoot, before we face camera. We will now do post then a lot of people will now be saying love, love, love, love. Four thousand comments, five thousand comments.

“I was tired because behind scene is crazy. Your mental health is going. The woman will be saying she does not want this, you will be saying you want this, she will be saying no, this is the right one. Issue. But for real is that what we want to do for years. No, you can’t deceive people for years”, he said.

VeryDarkMan: DeeOne Criticises IGP Disu Over Alleged Refusal To Arrest Activist

Nigerian comedian and influencer, Aderombi Adedayo Martins, popularly known as DeeOne, has called out the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Tunji Disu, for allegedly shielding VeryDarkMan from arrest.

DeeOne stated this in an Instagram video on Tuesday while reacting to the alleged failure of the police to arrest VeryDarkMan after he refused to honour an invitation for questioning.

Citing the arrests of Blord and Tacha over their alleged failure to honour police invitations, DeeOne insisted that no citizen should be treated differently from others.

Reacting to VeryDarkMan’s post about the police invitation, DeeOne accused Disu of shielding him from arrest.

He said: “Fellow Nigerians, our current Inspector-General of Police, Mr Tunji Disu, is becoming a useless man. What is good for a citizen is also good for all citizens.

“Recently, former Big Brother Naija housemate Tacha was arrested by the Nigeria Police Force, NPF, because she failed to honour the police invitation twice. The police did the right thing to arrest Tacha, but she has been released on bail.

“Everybody in Nigeria knew the time B-Lord was invited by the NPF. According to the story that we heard, they said he did not honour the invitation or he did not come at the time they wanted him to come. And the police arrested him and charged him to court quickly, and the person who reported B-Lord was seen driving behind the van to escort B-Lord to prison.

“Today, VeryDarkMan has been invited by the same NPF twice. He has even come out on his platform to say that he will not honour the invitation. Now, to the IGP, you cannot be in office forever. And the information reaching us is that they are going to change you very soon.

“They have approved for VeryDarkMan to be arrested. The person that is holding the arrest now is IGP Tunji Disu. So, Nigerians, is this man working for Nigerians or working for VeryDarkMan? Because all of a sudden, VeryDarkMan seems to like this man.

“However, Tunji Disu, sir, DeeOne no send you oo. I swear to God, if I see you today, I will greet you as a respectful human being, but I will say it to your face that you’re becoming a very useless IGP. Anything wey you wan do, do am. If you want to arrest DeeOne, you can go ahead because DeeOne doesn’t stop and nobody can bring DeeOne down.

“You see that VeryDarkMan wey you dey defend, wey you dey say make them no touch am, go and ask him about me. I won’t say more than that. I greet you, sir. So, you will be expecting more videos. Sometimes, we can even go a little bit personal. Maybe some of your work wey you never do well or some of the things wey make them wan change you. So, we fit bring them to social media.”

It was recalled that VeryDarkMan had announced that he would not honour the police invitation.

VeryDarkMan was invited after he made a series of allegations against the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Jimoh Moshood.
