‘I Will Invoke Amadioha’ – Kanayo O. Kanayo Warns Ghanaian Actors Over Fees

Veteran Nigerian actor Kanayo O. Kanayo has urged Ghanaian actors to negotiate their earnings based on their individual experience, popularity and position in the movie industry rather than comparing their fees with those of established Nigerian stars.

The actor made the remarks after travelling to Accra, Ghana, for a new movie project involving cast members from Nigeria and Ghana.

Kanayo, popularly known as KOK, claimed that some Ghanaian actors sometimes demand fees comparable to those paid to Nigerian actors when working on the same production.

He argued that payment in the entertainment industry is influenced by several factors, including an actor’s experience, career achievements, popularity and commercial value.

According to him, there is a hierarchy within the film industry, and performers should understand their individual standing when negotiating contracts.

“I am KOK. I was among the founding fathers. You now wake up in Ghana… They call KOK to come and act in Ghana; you Ghanaian boy, will now insist they pay you the same fees as me,” he said.

The veteran actor stressed that actors should focus on negotiating what they believe they are worth instead of concerning themselves with the earnings of their colleagues.

“It happens even up to today. There is hierarchy even in heaven. In the movie industry, there is hierarchy. Negotiate what you want to be paid. Don’t equate yourself with me,” Kanayo added.

He advised Ghanaian actors to negotiate independently and accept whatever agreement they reach with producers.

“Go and negotiate your own, receive it and go and rest, and then you will have peace in your life,” he said, ending his remarks with a humorous reference to Amadioha.

Fireboy explained that he does not have a history of major scandals and generally avoids situations involving relationships or interactions with other artistes that could attract negative publicity.
