Sarkodie Says Billionaires Are Funding Nigerian Artists

Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has said Nigerian artists enjoy greater financial support from billionaires and business executives than their Ghanaian counterparts.

Speaking on a recent episode of the When We Sit podcast, the rapper said many Ghanaian musicians pursue their careers without significant financial backing from local business executives.
According to Sarkodie, Nigerian businessmen are more willing to support and invest in musical talent, giving Nigerian artists a financial advantage in the African music industry.

“What Ghanaian artists do is organic. I give a business plan, even with that it is hard to get some people to come in. But in Nigeria, I think they take a lot of risk, most of the rich people with money, take a lot of risk to put their people on. If I breakdown what it takes to do the O2 Arena, you will freak out, but then we still have to do it,” he said.

He recalled meeting Nigerian billionaire Tony Elumelu and said he was surprised by the amount Elumelu disclosed he was investing in a Nigerian artist whom Sarkodie believes represents the future of Afrobeats.
Sarkodie added in part …

“I met Tony Elumelu in a suit store in London. He remembered booking me for his bank’s end-of-year party. He said he’s supporting a Nigerian artiste he believes is the future of Afrobeats. The amount he’s given to the artiste is huge. Ghanaians don’t have that.”

The rapper urged wealthy Ghanaians and business executives to emulate their Nigerian counterparts by investing in local artists and providing financial support to help grow Ghana’s music industry.

‘You’re an Ingrate, I Won’t Let This Slide’ – Laide Bakare Fires at Eniola Badmus

Nollywood actress Laide Bakare has criticised her colleague, Eniola Badmus, following a viral podcast moment in which the latter appeared to react negatively after her name was mentioned.

The controversy began during an interview featuring Nigerian skit maker Isbae U, who mentioned Laide Bakare as one of his favourite actresses. A video from the conversation has circulated online, drawing attention to Eniola Badmus’s facial expression and hiss immediately after Bakare’s name was mentioned.

Reacting to the clip, Bakare took to Instagram to express her displeasure, accusing Badmus of repeatedly attempting to damage her public image.

The actress described her colleague as a nuisance and an ingrate, alleging that the situation was part of a pattern of public disrespect. She warned that she would no longer remain silent over what she perceived as deliberate attempts to undermine her reputation.

In her post, Bakare questioned why Badmus allegedly continued to portray her negatively in public despite previous warnings to stop.

She also claimed that she had contributed to Badmus’s growth and success, accusing her colleague of failing to appreciate the support she had received.

“Honestly you are indeed an ingrate and I won’t let this slide,” Bakare wrote, expressing frustration over the incident.

The actress further stated that she would not allow another person’s insecurity to distract her from her personal journey and achievements.

“I know my journey, I know my worth, and I know how much it has taken Me to get here,” she added.

The latest exchange has renewed attention on the reportedly strained relationship between the two Nollywood stars. They have previously exchanged criticisms on social media, with reports suggesting that their disagreement once escalated into a face-to-face confrontation on a movie set.

Although the latest incident centres on a brief moment during a podcast interview, Bakare’s reaction has brought their longstanding tension back into public discussion.

Badmus’s response to Bakare’s latest allegations was not included in the available report.

‘I Wrote My Will at 30’ – Chude Jideonwo Opens Up About His Decision Not to Have Children

Media personality Chude Jideonwo has opened up on the personal reflections that shaped some of his biggest life decisions.
It was reported that Chude, who is an only child, explained that keeping a journal helped him understand himself better, confront his fears and decide what he wanted from life.

Speaking during an appearance on the Beyond With Ezinne podcast, he revealed that he began journaling extensively in 2015.
During that period, he wrote about his desires, the people he loved, his insecurities and the things that frightened him.

According to him, the process involved identifying his biggest fears and thinking about the worst possible outcomes if those fears eventually became reality.

One of the decisions he made during that period was to write his will, even though he was still relatively young.

He explained that he was around 30 or 31 years old when he began thinking seriously about what would happen to his responsibilities if he died.

He said, “So in 2015, I journaled like a mad person. What do I love? Who do I love? How do I like to be loved? What am I insecure about? You know, I wrote down, what am I afraid of? I wrote down the six things I’m afraid of. And I thought, what is the worst that will happen if these things happen?

“I wrote my will in 2015 or 2016, when I was 30, 31. Because I’m like, when I talk about what’s the worst that will happen if I d+e? And I thought, okay, I need to take care of my mother. I need to take care of the NGO that I contribute to.

“I love RED from the bottom of my heart, but PR is not what I want to do every day. So I wrote down, who do I want to get married to? Do I want to get married? That’s when I realized that I didn’t want to have children. It’s a big thing to realize as a human being. Yeah. To realize as an only child. Of a mother that I love dearly, and who I want to do everything for.”

Naija News reports that Fatai made the appeal in an open letter posted on his social media page.

In the letter, he apologized to his father and asked him to put aside whatever differences had kept them apart for decades.
He also expressed concern that they could lose more precious time without resolving their differences.

Fatai explained that he had made efforts in the past to contact his father and settle their differences, but the separation had continued to cause him emotional pain.

He maintained that despite their prolonged estrangement, Razaq Okoya remained his father and that their relationship was one he still valued.

He wrote: “More than four decades have passed, and today, I write with a humble heart, putting aside all pride to say: Dad, I am truly sorry. Please, find it in your heart to forgive me. Over the years, I have tried to reach out and make peace because the pain of our separation and the precious years we have lost weigh heavily on my heart. No matter what has happened, you remain my father, and I will forever be your first child. Dad, we cannot turn back the hands of time, but we can choose to make the years ahead different.

“Life is precious, time waits for no one, and I do not want us to lose any more opportunities to love, forgive and reconnect. I am simply asking for a chance a chance to heal, to make peace and to rebuild the bond between a father and his child. Dad, please, let love speak louder than the pain of the past. Let forgiveness open a door that has been closed for far too long. I am ready to take that step with humility, sincerity and an open heart. I love you, Dad. I miss you, and deep down, I still long for the blessing of having my father back in my life. Dad, I am truly sorry. My heart is open, my hands are extended, and my hope for reconciliation remains alive. Please, let us begin again.”

Timini Egbuson Denies Being a Womaniser, Says Nollywood Keeps Him Busy

Nollywood actor Timini Egbuson has denied perceptions that he is a womanizer, explaining that his busy acting career leaves him with little time to pursue multiple romantic relationships.
Naija News reports that the actor made this known during an appearance on the Culture League podcast.

According to Timini, many people believe he is constantly involved with women, but his reality is different from what they imagine.
He explained that the demands of the Nigerian movie industry have taken up much of his time over the past two to three years, leaving him with little opportunity to maintain an active dating life.

The actor said he often spends long hours on movie sets and returns home late at night, exhausted from work. He questioned how some of his friends manage to maintain relationships with several women despite their busy schedules.

He said: “A lot of people assume that I’m a womaniser, right? But I’m not. In the past two, three years, Nollywood has taken over my life in a way that there’s no room, except you be the most unserious. Some of my guys, we get like four girls, five girls, they follow talk. I’m like, how do you find the time? From being on set all day to getting back at 11 p.m., tired, I don’t have the capacity for that, so I’m not as in the streets as people may think I am.

“But I enjoy. To be fair, I don’t even mind it because I enjoy the whole thing. In reality, when I get back home sometimes, I’m taking a shot of Martell to just calm down when it’s time to sleep alone. You know, I’m just like, God, if only people know that. More or less, I’ve been alone. One thing you forget again is that the older you get, you’re no more as in the mix as you know. No matter how young a baby boy should look, the truth is that you’re getting older, so you don’t come up for this. The pool of people to even pick from is getting smaller as the days go by.”

Yinka Quadri Reveals Why He Abandoned School to Help Father’s Business

Veteran Nollywood actor Yinka Quadri has revealed that he voluntarily left school at a young age to help his father manage the family business amid challenges involving a relative who worked in the trading enterprise.

The actor disclosed this during an interview on the African A-List Podcast, published on YouTube on Saturday, October 10, 2026. He explained that his decision was driven by a desire to ease his father’s burden and address a difficult situation affecting the family business.

According to Quadri, his father relied heavily on his late uncle’s son, who had been sent to learn the family’s trading business. Their parents had reportedly agreed that the young man would spend 10 years learning the trade before returning to his own family.

However, Quadri said the arrangement continued beyond the agreed period, with his cousin remaining in the business for 16 years.

He explained that his father had grown emotionally attached to the relative because of the years they spent working together, eventually treating him almost like his own son.

The actor said he became concerned about the situation and decided to leave school to assist his father in running the business.

“I decided to leave school because I wanted to help my father manage the family business,” Quadri said.

He added that his father’s dependence on the relative had increased because the young man had spent years learning the trade and understood the business operations.

Quadri also clarified that his father did not force him to abandon his education. Rather, he said, the decision was entirely his own after he observed the difficulties confronting his family.

His account offers a glimpse into the responsibilities he accepted early in life and the personal sacrifices he made to support his father.

Although Quadri later became a prominent figure in the Nigerian film industry, his revelation highlights a lesser-known part of his background, showing how family obligations and business concerns influenced an important decision during his formative years.

Sam Idiagbonya: Filmmaker Calls on Nollywood to Harness Abuja’s Infrastructure for Growth

One of Nigeria’s leading filmmakers, Dr Sam Idiagbonya, has asked Nollywood practitioners to leverage Abuja’s infrastructure and facilities and embrace strategic partnerships to reduce production costs, attract investment and unlock the economic potential of the country’s film industry.

Idiagbonya, who is the president and chief creative officer of Fedmas Studios, said the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) possesses significant advantages for filmmaking, including a relatively stable electricity supply in some areas, a serene environment, accessible transportation and hospitality facilities.

He said inadequate production infrastructure and weak collaboration were limiting the industry’s growth.

Dr Idiagbonya spoke at an interactive session on the operational challenges and economic prospects of the Nigerian film industry in Abuja.

He identified the high cost of equipment, inadequate training facilities and limited collaboration among creative professionals as major obstacles to sustainable film production.

The filmmaker argued that pooling resources, adopting joint production models and sharing technical expertise would enable practitioners to overcome financial constraints and improve the quality of their productions without bearing the full cost of expensive equipment individually.

According to him, Abuja could emerge as a major filmmaking hub if practitioners developed deliberate strategies to leverage its existing infrastructure and create an enabling environment for investment, innovation, and professional development.

“The future of creativity is collaboration. You cannot do this alone. I could write a script for a month, and my team could spend weeks criticising it.

“That criticism is very necessary and a valuable addition to the script. If somebody has a better idea, you should be able to listen,” he said.

Dr Idiagbonya, a medical doctor and a certified film director and screenwriter, maintained that constructive criticism and knowledge sharing were essential to producing commercially viable films and building a sustainable creative economy.

He also called for an environment that would allow filmmakers to experiment, develop technical expertise and refine their creative ideas without being constrained by the prohibitive cost of accessing modern production facilities.

“Creatives need the freedom to experiment, fail, criticise, and try again. Then there are infrastructural deficits.

“Equipment is expensive, training remains a challenge, and filmmakers need more opportunities to justify investments in equipment,” he said.

The Fedmas Studios chief executive noted that the failure to fully exploit Abuja’s existing advantages had limited opportunities for filmmakers operating in the capital, despite its potential to support a vibrant production industry.

“Abuja is a plus. We have relatively stable electricity in many areas, a serene environment, good hotels, accessibility, and relatively easy movement. The problem is that we don’t always take advantage of these advantages,” he added.

He urged emerging filmmakers in Abuja and across northern Nigeria to prioritise skills acquisition, continuous professional development and partnerships across creative disciplines.

He stressed that such investments could help transform the region’s creative potential into a sustainable industry.

Dr Idiagbonya said a more collaborative and investment-friendly filmmaking environment could strengthen production capacity, create economic opportunities and position Nigerian films for wider markets.

Olaoba also said that although Toluwanisings’ time on earth is over, his “ministry lives on.”

Cute Abiola, however, said he had personally witnessed some of the incidents, adding that the officers were often dressed in plain clothes.

“From now on, this must stop in Kwara, and I want to drop some numbers that you can call in case the police harass you. They have no right to collect your phone,” he said.
