‘I’ll Never Bet Again’ – Destiny Etiko Laments Losing N5 Million to Football Bet

Nollywood actress Destiny Etiko has disclosed that she lost ₦5 million after placing her first-ever football bet, describing the experience as both financially painful and emotionally exhausting.

The actress shared the revelation on her Instagram page shortly after the conclusion of the 2026 FIFA World Cup final, where Spain defeated defending champions Argentina 1-0 after extra time to lift the trophy.

Expressing her disappointment, Etiko said the hefty loss had convinced her to stay away from sports betting permanently. She admitted that the emotional stress she experienced while waiting for the outcome of the match was overwhelming and not worth the risk.

According to the actress, the anxiety she endured throughout the wager nearly took a toll on her health, prompting her to make a firm decision never to place another bet.

“First time betting and I lost. Will never try it again. My 5M gone. In fact, I’m done watching football. Anxiety almost killed me,” she wrote.

Her post quickly attracted reactions from fans and followers, with many sympathising over the loss while others advised her to avoid gambling altogether. Some social media users also used the opportunity to warn others about the risks associated with betting, stressing that significant financial losses can occur regardless of confidence in a predicted outcome.

Etiko’s revelation came after the dramatic 2026 FIFA World Cup final held at the New York New Jersey Stadium. Spain emerged as world champions after defeating Argentina 1-0 following extra time in a closely contested encounter.

Substitute Ferran Torres scored the decisive goal in the 106th minute, handing Spain its second FIFA World Cup title and bringing Argentina’s reign as defending champions to an end.

Although the actress did not reveal which team she backed, she made it clear that the outcome of the match cost her ₦5 million and has completely changed her attitude toward sports betting. She insisted the experience was enough to discourage her from gambling again and even joked that she was “done watching football” after the painful loss.
