Ojay Wright Recalls Discovering His Mother Bukky Wright’s Popularity

Ojay Wright, son of veteran Nollywood actress and filmmaker Bukky Wright, has recounted how a birthday celebration in Lagos made him realise the remarkable level of his mother’s popularity.

Ojay shared the experience during a recent mother-and-son interview with Pulse Nigeria, explaining that he had underestimated his mother’s celebrity status until an unexpected incident at a popular Lagos nightclub changed his perception.

According to him, he had returned to Nigeria from the United States for a holiday and decided to celebrate his birthday at Quilox nightclub. What was supposed to be a personal celebration, however, turned into an eye-opening experience when guests and other club patrons began anticipating his mother’s arrival.

Ojay said he was confused by the unusual excitement and the way the club’s management appeared to be controlling the situation.

He recalled that the manager effectively acted like a bouncer as the venue became crowded with people eager to catch a glimpse of Bukky Wright.

“I came back home from the US for holiday and I celebrated my birthday at Quilox. I didn’t know that Omotara was that big,” he said.

He explained that people kept telling him not to worry when he questioned what was happening, revealing that the excitement was connected to his mother.

According to Ojay, many people believed the veteran actress was coming specifically to celebrate her son’s birthday, making her anticipated appearance a major attraction.

He added that Bukky Wright eventually arrived and stayed for approximately 30 minutes, during which the excitement surrounding her presence became clear.

Reflecting on the incident, Ojay admitted that he had always viewed Bukky primarily as his mother rather than as a celebrity with a massive public following.

“I was surprised, I thought you were just mom not knowing you’re big,” he said.

The revelation highlights Bukky Wright’s enduring influence in Nollywood and the recognition she continues to enjoy among fans.
