Lagos Govt Slams Tunde Ednut Over Viral Video Of Mushin Waste

The Lagos State Government has criticised Instagram blogger Tunde Ednut over a viral video showing heaps of waste in Mushin, describing the footage as old and unrepresentative of the current situation in the area.

Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, made the remarks in a post on X on Saturday.

The commissioner said the video being circulated did not reflect the current state of Mushin, insisting that the government had taken steps to address waste management in the area.

“Dear Tunde @mazitundeednut, We understand your persistent tendency to portray Nigeria, particularly Lagos State, in a negative light, often to the detriment of your audience. However, we believe it is important to verify information before publishing it.

“You can still generate engagement and earn from your content without inadvertently misleading your followers”, Wahab wrote.

He said the video shared by Ednut was old, adding that the location “has since been cleared, and LAWMA has continued to sustain its operations in the area.”

One of them, he noted, is the “unwillingness of some residents and property occupiers to pay for PSP waste collection services.”

“Nevertheless, LAWMA and its teams have consistently intervened in areas where such challenges arise and continue to work towards maintaining a cleaner and healthier environment,” he added.

The commissioner urged content creators to verify information before posting.

“We therefore encourage you to verify your information before publishing, rather than relying on outdated content that could give a misleading impression of the current situation or unnecessarily project Lagos and Nigeria in a negative light. NigeriaInvestment Guide

“Constructive criticism is welcome, but it is most effective when it is based on accurate and verifiable information”, he concluded.
