Adekunle Gold Calls for Social Media Regulation to Curb Fake News

Afrobeats singer Adekunle Gold has called for stricter regulation of social media following the conviction of an X user who circulated a false report claiming that his daughter, Adejare Kosoko, had died.

Speaking on the One 54 Podcast, the singer described the spread of misinformation on social media as alarming and dangerous. He said people are increasingly exposed to false stories online, sometimes to the extent that even public figures are left questioning reports about themselves.

Adekunle Gold stressed the need for appropriate regulation to curb the spread of misleading information across social media platforms.

The singer also revealed that the individual responsible for the false report about his daughter was prosecuted after he reported the matter to the relevant authorities. According to him, the court sentenced the man to two years in prison, with an option of a fine.

Adekunle Gold explained that he deliberately chose to pursue the matter through legal channels rather than confront the individual personally.

He noted that while he has accepted that public scrutiny comes with being a celebrity, his daughter did not choose that lifestyle and should not be dragged into unnecessary controversies.

“I can take anything said about me. I signed up for this, not my daughter,” the singer said.

He added that he was determined to handle the situation responsibly, stressing that he did not seek personal revenge against the man behind the false report.

Adekunle Gold’s comments have reignited discussions about online misinformation, responsible social media use and the need to protect individuals, particularly children, from harmful false claims circulating online.
