Prudent Gabriel Okopi Speaks on Marrying Before His Elder Sister

Fashion designer Prudent Gabriel Okopi shared that her elder sister supported her decision to marry before her, despite her initial concerns.

Okopi said she contacted her sister before her husband set the wedding date to make sure she was comfortable with the arrangement.

According to her, she felt bad about getting married first and wanted to be certain that her sister would not feel pressured or hurt by the development.

“I got married before my immediate elder sister and before my husband fixed the date, I called my sister, because I was feeling bad and I said, ‘Are you okay with me getting married before you?’” she recounted.

She said her sister reassured her, telling her that her marriage would be a blessing to her and encouraging her to proceed.

Okopi added that she offered to postpone the wedding until the following year, stressing that neither she nor her husband was in a hurry to get married.

She also expressed concern about whether her sister’s partner was ready for marriage, noting that her sister could be selective when it came to relationships.

“I asked her, ‘Are you sure?’ Because I don’t mind. I am not rushing. My husband is not rushing. We can move it to next year. Is her guy ready?” she said.

The fashion designer explained that her sister understood that she and her husband were ready to take the next step, while her sister’s partner was not yet prepared for marriage.

She recalled hugging her sister on her wedding day and reassuring her that she would also get married the following year.

Although she admitted that she still felt bad about marrying first, Okopi said her sister’s understanding and support made the experience easier.

Her account has highlighted the emotional considerations that can arise when younger siblings marry before their older siblings, particularly in families where marriage order can carry social and cultural expectations.
