‘I Won’t Marry a Man Who Wants Me to Cook Every Day’ – Mercy Eke

Former Big Brother Naija winner and reality television star Mercy Eke has sparked debate on social media after revealing that she would not date or marry a man who expects her to cook for him on a daily basis.

Speaking during a recent episode of the Toke Moments podcast hosted by media personality Toke Makinwa, Eke explained that she believes relationships should be built on mutual understanding and shared responsibilities rather than traditional gender expectations.

According to the reality star, she enjoys cooking occasionally but has no interest in making it a daily obligation. She stressed that she only prepares meals when she feels like it and would rather a partner who wants freshly cooked food every day employ a professional chef.

“I can’t marry or date a man who wants me to cook for him regularly. I only cook once in a while when I am in the mood. If you want fresh food every day, hire a chef,” she said.

Eke maintained that love alone would never convince her to take on the responsibility of cooking every day, adding that she knows her limits and prefers to be upfront about them before entering a serious relationship.

“Love can never make me cook for a man every day. I’m not the woman for that kind of man. There are other women out there who will gladly do that, which is fine,” she added.

The former BBNaija winner noted that compatibility is essential in any relationship, saying partners should choose each other based on shared values, expectations and lifestyles rather than trying to change one another after marriage.

She further explained that anyone who dislikes eating leftover food or expects freshly prepared meals daily may not be suited to a relationship with her.

“That is why it’s important to marry who has what you are looking for. So, if you marry me and you are thinking you don’t eat overnight food, it’s not me. I can’t cook every day,” she stated.

Her remarks have since generated mixed reactions online, with some people applauding her honesty and emphasis on compatibility, while others argued that cooking is an important part of marriage and family life.
