American R&B and soul singer Freddie Jackson, celebrated for timeless hits including “You Are My Lady” and “Rock Me Tonight,” has died at the age of 69.

The family described Jackson as more than an accomplished singer, portraying him as a kind and generous man who deeply valued his family, friends, fans and music.

Jackson became one of the prominent voices of romantic R&B and soul during the 1980s and built a strong following among adult contemporary music audiences.

His catalogue included several successful songs, such as “Rock Me Tonight,” “You Are My Lady,” “Tasty Love,” “Have You Ever Loved Somebody,” “Jam Tonight,” “He’ll Never Love You (Like I Do)” and “Do Me Again.”
