AY Apologises to Fans Over Cardiff Show Fallout, Says One Night Shouldn’t Erase 20 Years
Nigerian comedian Ayo Makun, popularly known as AY, has apologised to fans who were disappointed by his comedy show in Cardiff, Wales, following the backlash that greeted the event.
In a lengthy statement shared on Instagram, the entertainer addressed calls for him to be cancelled, saying it was painful to see one difficult night overshadow more than two decades of entertaining audiences.
AY questioned why negative reports about him often attract widespread attention, arguing that similar enthusiasm should be shown towards his years of consistency, professional achievements and contributions to the entertainment industry.
He disclosed that some respected industry figures had advised him to remain silent until the controversy subsided. However, he said he believed the fans who paid to attend the show deserved an explanation.
According to the comedian, repeated experiences involving promises of payment that were not fulfilled had taken a toll on him. He said he had sometimes used his personal money to pay colleagues after performing under difficult circumstances.

AY explained that after another disappointing experience during the tour and a five-hour drive from Sheffield to Cardiff, he reached his breaking point.
Despite explaining his frustration, he acknowledged that the audience waiting at the venue was not responsible for what happened.
“The fans waiting had done nothing wrong. For your disappointment, wasted time and the upset you experienced, I am sincerely sorry,” he stated.
The comedian urged the public to watch his video and listen to his account before reaching conclusions. He acknowledged that people were entitled to disagree with his decision but asked that his perspective also be considered.
AY maintained that criticism would not make him abandon the career and brand he had built over the years. He promised to learn from the incident and continue working.
As part of his efforts to make amends, he announced plans to organise a free comedy show in Cardiff at his own expense, subject to confirmation of the venue and arrangements.
He clarified that the proposed performance would not replace any refund owed to people who paid for the original event.
AY thanked supporters and those who offered constructive criticism, insisting that he still had more laughter to share with audiences.
