Toke Makinwa Explains Why Nigerian Men Always Offer Women Money
Nollywood actress and media personality, Toke Makinwa has debunked claims that modern Nigerian women are too materialistic, or are only interested in relationships for financial gain.
Makinwa stated that romantic relationships between men and women had always involved some form of exchange, adding that the trend did not start with modern-day Nigerian women.
Makinwa said relationships have been transactional “from time immemorial” in an interview on a recent episode of the MENtality podcast hosted by Ebuka Obi-Uchendu.
She said, “It’s always been a transactional relationship between a man and a woman, ever since the Garden of Eden, ever since our parents’ times. And the level at which it is happening now I will blame men. Sometimes, that’s all a man has to offer.”
She said that Nigerian women are often accused of being materialistic because many men approach relationships by using money as their main attraction.
‘Nigerian Men Have No Game Just Cash
Makinwa also cited that some Nigerian men rely heavily on their financial capacity as they do not have other qualities to build romantic connections, Naija News understands.
Nigerian men have no games apart from money. When a Nigerian man gets money he starts throwing money at the hottest girls. Sometimes you meet a guy and you want to know him but he is giving you money,” she said.
“Some women have come to have materialistic expectations because men have over and over again put money forward as the main value they bring to relationships,” the media personality added.
“Men have given women the weirdest things and it made me realize that men think money is all they need to show you. “Many girls today are materialistic because men have taught them to demand,” Makinwa added.
