Tobeszn Defends Gen Z, Says Generation Is Widely Misunderstood

Content creator Tobeszn has pushed back against common stereotypes about Generation Z, arguing that many of the criticisms directed at young people today are rooted in misunderstanding rather than reality.

Speaking on the Mentality with Ebuka podcast, Tobeszn said every generation is shaped by the social and economic conditions of its time, noting that Gen Z has grown up in a world driven by technology, economic uncertainty, heightened mental health awareness and constant digital connectivity.

According to him, these experiences have naturally influenced how the generation approaches careers, relationships and everyday life.

Tobeszn explained that what many people describe as rebellion is often a willingness to question long-standing norms. He said Gen Z is more inclined to prioritise work-life balance, speak openly about mental health and leave environments they consider unhealthy.

He added that this approach is frequently mistaken for disrespect, even though it reflects changing values rather than defiance.

The content creator also addressed the way Gen Z communicates, saying their direct style is often viewed negatively by older generations, who may interpret it as rudeness. However, many young people see such communication as honesty and authenticity.

On social media, Tobeszn noted that while critics often dismiss Gen Z’s online presence as vanity, many have successfully turned digital platforms into profitable careers through content creation, technology, entrepreneurship and other creative ventures.

He acknowledged that Gen Z, like every generation before it, faces its own challenges, including navigating online pressure and pursuing success in an unpredictable economy.

However, he maintained that reducing an entire generation to stereotypes does little to foster understanding between young people and older generations.

Tobeszn concluded that the conversation should move beyond whether Gen Z is different and instead focus on understanding the factors that have shaped the generation’s unique outlook on life.
