Concerns Grow Over North West’s Hand and Facial Piercings as Medical Experts Issue Health Warning

North West, the 13-year-old daughter of media personality Kim Kardashian and rapper Kanye West, popularly known as Ye, has become the subject of widespread online discussion following her recent public appearances showcasing multiple hand and facial piercings.

The piercings have not only sparked debate across social media but have also drawn concern from medical professionals, who warn that such procedures could present significant health risks, particularly for someone of her age.

Board-certified dermatologist Dr. Corey Hartman cautioned that the complex dermal and surface piercings visible on North’s fingers and face carry considerably higher risks than traditional ear piercings. According to the specialist, the procedures may increase the likelihood of hypertrophic scarring, permanent skin disfigurement, tissue damage, and, in severe cases, reduced hand function.

Dr. Hartman further explained that individuals with highly melanated skin are generally at greater risk of developing keloids and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. As a result, the healing process can be more unpredictable, with a higher chance of permanent, visible scarring.

Medical experts also highlighted the unique challenges associated with hand piercings. Because the hands are constantly in motion and regularly exposed to friction, pressure, and bacteria, dermal piercings in these areas are often more difficult to heal than piercings in other parts of the body.

Unlike conventional ear piercings, dermal piercings involve placing a small anchor beneath the skin’s surface. Specialists warn that these anchors are more susceptible to rejection, a process in which the body gradually pushes the jewelry out, often resulting in pain, inflammation, and additional tissue damage.

Doctors also cautioned that if a dermal anchor is inserted too deeply, it could come into contact with tendons, nerves, or blood vessels beneath the skin, potentially leading to lasting complications or impaired hand movement.

The images of North’s piercings have generated mixed reactions online, with many social media users questioning whether the procedures were appropriate for someone her age. While some commenters criticized Kim Kardashian and Ye’s parenting decisions, others argued that the choice ultimately reflects the family’s personal approach to self-expression and style.

The latest discussion comes months after North and her father, Kanye West, made headlines for reportedly acquiring matching luxury grills valued at approximately $850,000, a purchase that also attracted significant public attention.
